Im Dreaming Of A Nordic Christmas

Nobody does Christmas like the northern Europeans! It’s where the tradition of Christmas decorations originate from after all and it’s one of the first places you think about when you imagine a typical Christmas scene with Pine trees, snow and roaring fires!

Simple and natural are the two main objectives when it comes to a Scandi style Christmas. Scandinavia’s iconic neutral interior schemes, injected with natural materials from timber to stone, make a beautiful backdrop for twinkling lights and full Green natural garlands. As most cabins in Scandinavia are either natural pine, which is typically pale in colour or White painted boards there is always the perfect background for the Reds and Greens to stand boldly and warmly against. The colours Red and White and the occasional hint of Green are the only colour pallet. The Red and White colours actually come from the traditional Red buildings covered in Deep snow.

Finally there are the traditional Nordic fairisle patterns, which just ooze Christmas spirit, and it wouldn’t be complete with the warmth of candlelight to bring everything together!

The best thing is that it isn’t difficult to re create yourself!

You could make your own garlands by using Holly and evergreens from the garden and use things like bailer twine and hessian with berries and candles.

Wood should also be a feature in your decorations and use Red ribbon galore to bring your theme together! White cottons and painted wood/surfaces will provide the perfect backdrop for your traditional cosy Christmas scene!
