Never before has space been such an important factor in the construction industry. In the UK we are running out of it at a rapid rate and with the demand for housing increasing the problem is only going to grow.
Welcome to….. The tiny house.
I first came across this new concept on T.V in America a few years ago. Yes there is even a T.V show about it! I was hooked. If you are like me that love looking inside caravans to see how they get everything you could possibly want inside such a small space then this is the T.V show for you!
The tiny house movement is simple…
Followers believe that our huge houses become prisons. We end up working every hour to pay for them. The bills, the furniture to fill each cavernous room and the constant upkeep of them and the land in which they sit. So move over big house and welcome the tiny house. Built with the technology of a normal dwelling but with a lot of clever use of space giving us the space we only actually need, whilst allowing us to go and live our lives and enjoy them! The true tiny houses are transportable and operate off the grid, but are a distant cry from the humble caravan and there are size limitations it must fall within for it to be classed as a tiny house but apart form all that I think it is the concept that we as Brits are becoming increasingly interested in. With the cost of land increasing modular and ‘tiny’ homes are on the increase. Families are beginning to utilize the land that they have and using it to their advantage to house parents and growing kids. The average rental cost in the UK is £895. Paying that kind of rent for 3 years and you could have paid the price of a luxury cabin in the garden, so you can see how this option would begin to make sense.
Modular homes are becoming an excellent way of building without all the ‘mess’ and disruption that traditional building methods bring there are even ‘kits’ that can be bought so you can construct your own. They are fully insulated and can be on or off grid depending on the level of comfort you are happy to live with. Because modular homes are built in sections it is a very easy building method to ‘scale down’ to provide you with the space that you need to live comfortably without all the constraints that a large home would bring!
Its just about clever storage solutions (more about that on the way!)
